A few weeks ago we enhanced mobile access to spreadsheets by adding the ability to add, edit, sort, and filter rows. Today, I'm happy to announce that this same list view is now available when you're working on spreadsheets from desktop and notebook computers. You can find list view under the View menu.
List view provides a simplified interface to your spreadsheet. Here's an example of a spreadsheet that could be used by employees that are staffing a trade show booth:
Notice that you can quickly sort and filter data in list view without changing the underlying spreadsheet. Each sort and filter view has a unique web address (URL), making it easy to return to a particular view to inspect and analyze your data. You can share list view URLs with your colleagues, provided they have permission to access the spreadsheet. Below, I've filtered the spreadsheet to see who requested "Large" t-shirts on "Tuesday":
List view can also be embedded in a web page, either in read-only or editable mode. Here I've embedded a view of the example spreadsheet right into this blog post:Here are a few more ways to use list view:
- Imagine that you collected 100 names and t-shirt sizes using a Google Docs form. You might share a list view of the form responses, allowing people to fix errors (such as someone entering the wrong size) without worrying about a novice user accidentally messing up other parts of the spreadsheet.
- Rather than embedding a published snapshot of a spreadsheet in your Google Sites page, you can now embed a read-only list view of the spreadsheet, which allows users to easily sort, filter and page through the data.

How can you embed a filtered list view like you've done above into Google Sites?
If I Insert->Spreadsheet I can embed the spreadsheet in list view but can't seem to figure out how to embed it using the modified views.

couple of suggestions: 1>if multiple users are adding to same sheet via a form, there is need to have list view setting, wherein, user can only see his entries (user id based) and not from others; "go to spreadsheet view" might have to be optionally suppressed in this case or result in view of his/her data only;
admin would send select view url (for particular user id) to that user as a first step
2>form entry could become direct row entry instead of using form in some cases (with expert users who don't need all the form explanation/options), but then one needs to allow adding rows into the view and not being able to edit existing rows. this is need in many situations, where you might want user to view all his/her entries but not allow them to edit those entries once submission made and having option to add rows in this instead of using form would be nice.

First, the List View is a GREAT enhancement!
However, I don't see any way to embed using the List view.
I can embed the regular spreadsheet view into my regular website using the Share button and publishing as a web page. But it only gives me the option of the HTML view. How do you do it so people can see BOTH regular and list views when embedding?
This is excellent. I can see how it would be very useful already. However, can we add a print function to this page view?

I hope some Google engineer can solve this issue, the issue just happen from March/21th, so I believe there are some software modification make it happen;
I also hope Google can give all published spreadsheet with an approach to add "Adsense" and help Google and published user to make Google document get earning;
Due to my problem is serious without any Google engineer to solve it, so sorry for my post in this comment.
if one Spreadsheet can access by many employee, so the spreadsheet will expand to many copies for each user modified?

If you want to share your list view with the world, make sure to make it visible to anyone.
Then, under the normal option to share with the world, where it gives you the URL:
http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=p_touGq8wze49AhayoOokSw
change the "ccc" right before "key=..." to "lv". So the new URL is:
http://spreadsheets.google.com/lv?key=p_touGq8wze49AhayoOokSw
I imagine the same works for the code to embed in a webpage.

A very annoying misfunction - working on spreadsheet and staying idle for some time, the session expires and it wont tell so. Just says "saving" and freezes. Cant you make Ajax based log-in so that on session expiring some comfy div would jump up with log-in form? Annoying is typing some data in and then would have to refresh anyway to get into log-in view.

Re: view options, note that there seems to be a bug where Alt-Enter causes toggling between full-screen & normal even when one is entering an Alt-Enter character in a Google Spreadsheet cell (to force a line-break within the text in the cell). I hope whomever in Google Docs development can fix this so it doesn't do that while one is entering data in a cell.
