Public Template Gallery submissions now open to everyone

Friday, July 17, 2009 10:30 AM

Since we launched the public template gallery last year, people who use Google Docs have been asking for a way to share their own templates with all Google Docs users by uploading them to the public gallery.

Today, we've opened up the template gallery to the public and added a "Submit a template" link in the top right corner of the gallery page. If you have a great spreadsheet for planning a family vacation or a tried and tested form for collecting customer feedback, you can now submit your template to the gallery and anyone using Google Docs will be able to try it out.

Templates can be documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and even forms. Other people can preview your templates, and then click "use this template" to create their own copy for personal use. They can also rate your templates to help other users find the most useful templates.

Once you upload a template to the gallery, you can also embed your template (with a thumbnail image) into your own website or blog.

As before, the public template gallery makes it easy to sort and browse the templates by category, usage, rating, and document type. Do you have a document, presentation, spreadsheet or form that you want to add to the public template gallery? To get started, follow these steps:

1. Go to the "Google Docs Template Gallery"
2. Click the "Submit a template" link
3. Select the document you want to add to the template gallery, enter in a description, choose an appropriate category and click "Submit template"

If you're using Google Apps, check out this blog post about sharing templates within your own organization. We look forward to seeing what you create and upload to the gallery. If you have any feedback on the public template gallery, please let us know at http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Docs.

I wonder how long it will take before it will be infested by SPAM...

Does Google review any of the submitted templates on contents, usability or if they are just copies of other templates (think copyright)?

Templates are your biggest time saver and your easiest way to standardize. You already probably use templates and don't even realize it. When I started my blogs I did a lot of search and research on this and collected a big list of good sites (more than 250 sites) that have decent templates. If you are interested take a look at the below link.

Also, if you want to get more information about blogs (like submit URLs,,Website Widgets,Blog Widgets,Blog Copyright Laws,Blog Templates,Blogging, Blog Marketing,Blog Adwords,Blog Adsense,Blog Trends or Pulse,Blog Statistics,Blog Ranking,Top Blogs,Top Sites) go to my home page and check blogs section.

Hi there.
I have seen some questions regarding to templates on Google Docs Help Forum, which are left without answer, since other users have little knowledge of them.
I do have some templates (pt-br) on my site, and I feel myself responsible for answering questions that the users have about them.
I would like to suggest that, as a requirement for posting templates in the repository, makers should allow a channel for answering questions about those templates.
Regards,
Otávio

Uhm... I posted a template and my *full name* appears next to it. I would prefer only seeing my alias (Danny) appear next to it instead of my full name.

My template (PM Spreadsheet V2) has a form in it and this is what appears in the preview thumbnail, which is irritating. 'Use template' drop users straight in at the form, which is very confusing although the copy seems to be created correctly.

It would be nice if this bug(?) were fixed!

it would be nice to have personal confidential template ... that you could specify who shares it

Public templates are a great idea, but right now I get lots of "Sorry, you don't have permission to access this spreadsheet."

Please exclude these from my gallery view. Better, how about requiring that submissions to a public gallery allow public use, and by default "open as copy" except when previewing?

Howdy - can anyone point me to a document on how to create a template on a custom page size in google docs? I'm trying to create a mailing label template for a crm that can export address info directly to google docs. But, a template for my dymo label printer doesn't exist, so I want to create my own.

Thanks if anyone has any pointers.
