Nice use of Google Moderator for collecting ideas.

If I create a form and embed it in a public web page, I'd like to have some kind of "is this a human filling in the form" check, such as the common "word verification" approach where a graphic is displayed containing distored letters and numbers.

Data filtering in spreadsheets. Filter by values, expressions, regular expressions, by color. keep up the great work.

Some sort of sync with a local folder, so I can upload batches of documents to Google Docs. This is something that seems to be severely lacking.

Rob Stitzer said...

I would enjoy the ability to change the look and format of the fields when I create a form. It's convenient to create these forms, use them in emails and create useful spreadsheets from it!

I agree with all the posters here but in order to make Google docs successful it needs to integrate ***seamlessly*** with all Microsoft Office products. Microsoft Office (in different releases) is literally used in almost all companies as well as almost all homes/home offices.

Spreadsheet: allow me to rotate text in a cell. And allow cells to be overlaid. I can do this in Excel, I need to be able to do it in Google Docs too!

We want open document for presentations too, dammit! www.reddit.com/tb/9kw6r

1. Make it work on mobile browsers. Android at least.
2. Styling the documents with themes (along the lines of CSS). So, create the text first, then address the formatting. Or bring in custom made themes from company/community.
3. API to generate docs from your own code. (don't know if something like this is hidden somewhere)

A simple thing like auto formatting dates in the Spreadsheet app would be great.

Thanks guys

When going into full screen when editing a doc, the notification letting me know that I should press escape to return gets in the way and needs to be dismissed every time. This is annoying

Spreadsheet: Enable "merge cells" for vertical selections. (currently just horizontal).

Forms: Simple data types, ranges, value sets. Validation.

3dBloke said...

Doc: When editing existing text, if I put the cursor at the start of a line, press SHIFT and then DOWN whole line is selected, which is correct behaviour. If I keep SHIFT pressed and press DOWN again the next line is not added to the selection. This seems to be a timing issue since, if the DOWN key is pressed more rapidly the selection is extended correctly.

I use this method of editing a lot and this is quite frustrating. :-(

1) Allow sub-folders for hieratical organization of information
2) Common look, feel, and function (i.e. tables work differently in every product)
3) Provisioning API for sites, we have to build our default configurations by hand
4) Expand provisioning API for email/GAPS administration so we can change any of the variables
5) Allow mapping of an IP address to a Google site so company.com doesn’t have to go to anther provider’s parked page
6) Navigation links “sites, mail, calendar” are inconsistently displayed across products
7) Google Talk needs to support conferencing and SIP functionality we have to use other products for voice
8) Google Gears crashes with Chrome frequently when used in offline mode

Page layout in docs.

The biggest problem I have is that I can't work on the layout in Google Docs.

Please could there be an option to select page size and to view the document being edited as a page layout - with page breaks?

Lílian Moreira said...

-Definitely, the fact that I have to work on a sheet of paper with the same size as my screen bores me to death. Some possibilities of page layout would do a great deal around here...
-And also something that assures me that I'm not being read by Google team in ANY way - maybe I'm psycho, but I don't feel good about people peeking at me nor at my work.

Integrate everything with Google Wave.

Also, I would appreciate to be able to change the format on Forms. It a great service, but too rigid.

Whenever changes are made by a different user to a Doc, I would like to be able to agree to this changes as a co-editor.

Finally, launch Google Wave. Thank you.

Infopath. It would be pretty easy for you to do. Check out SanMateoWaveforms.com, it is a combination of Infopath and Access.

-also hoping for integration with Google Wave.

For Docs of all types, add ability to add an Approval workflow. You would set up author (or someone else) as an approver, and when a doc is submitted, an email is generated with a link, the reviewer marks, returns for corrections etc., and finally when satisfied Approves. Maybe this could be part of an API that would allow this kind of process to be built and added as needed.

Responding to Jehoya, I tried inserting an image in Doc, first saving, then another without saving. Both times it worked OK. I am using Firefox 3.5.3 on Mac OS X.

Ok, I would like to have an audio recording, for example through flash player, In Gmail and in GoogleDocs. Sometimes i don't feel writing and if i want to send a voice message to my friend then there is no place i could do that. I think this would be an interesting, easy to build and valuable add-on.

Techsin said...

Also adding these wouldn't hurt,

>Speech to text Converter.
>Full blown Html, Css, javascript, and Php Editor.
>Being able to upload Multiple files.
>Google Maps Integration- Like I could show someone where am i in my word file.

Love real time sharing already.

I actually have very few complaints. It does very well for what I use it for (despite the difficulty in using tab stops:)

I track my use on my blog:

www.teachingwithgoogledocs.blogspot.com

I hope it helps people, especially teachers use this product even better!

BTW, it would help if we could pre-populate checkboxes using either the checkbox id OR the checkbox value.

well I still have basic problem with exporting files, the spacing in doc file becomes weird.

Also pasting images through copy&paste (ctrl+v) doesn't work for me. But generally I love docs :D and I am so waiting for wave :D

I'd like to see a chat feature as similiar to the one you already have in Spreadsheets and Presentations.

C_C_S said...

HI, not sure if this would be under Docs, or gmail feedback.

When I view my gmail inbox I can see who an email is from and the first line of the email. Based off of that information I know with 90% or more accuracy whether the email requires a response. I would like to have a reply button in this view instead of having to open the email and then clicking to reply. This would eliminate one click from the reply process.

I a fan of Google Apps, but I have to agree with many of the criticisms described in this article (Sept 17) on The Business Insider site, http://ow.ly/q2Qj

For the sake of Google Apps and those of us that want it to be a success, please address these issues.

skyhard said...

still no sight of the foder sharing option....

jms said...

Is someone saying that Microsoft implements a uniform sign on across all their products, must have missed that.

jms said...

In Google Sites a couple of requests

1) Surface the CSS styling rules so we can create more themes and styling

2) Within the site themes / colors / fonts we need more control (i.e. can't change the font size for navigation bars)

Setu said...

1. Some programming for spreadsheet that can be done on local machine. Then this can be embeded with Spreadsheet to do some kind of automation.

2. Also some kind of tool for connecting to database like Oracle using SQL.

3. Using SQL query to extract data from spreadsheet

Furious Sam said...

Google Docs currently has few ways to organize documents. Even the 'Sort by Name' method seems broken.

jms said...

One that was a bit embarrassing with a customer was no spell check in sites. I've switch them to Chrome with the built in spell check as an alternative.

I work at a school...I think that google could take over the report creation and sharing. With a few changes to the forms feature and sharing features...schools would jump to google docs in a heart beat...imagine if all your report cards could be kept in the cloud, shared between districts, and always accessible to parents?

PAStheLoD said...

It'd be nice, if the team actually answered the ideas.

And for the love of all internets, give us notifications for (text) documents.

macbeach said...

More fonts, and more consistency in fonts.

Opening a new document I have a selection of 11 standard MS fonts. But in spreadsheet or presentation I have only 6. Why not the same ones?

It would also be nice to have some "extended" fonts, most of which are in the public domain (or open source anyway) and could be used in Google docs and made available (by Google) for easy download by anyone who doesn't have them.

Ironic that Microsoft should be the only one providing "standard" fonts for the Internet.

Please make more font colours in Google Docs

SmoothSavoy said...

please allow Notification Rules to be set as a standard (maybe in the settings). I would love it if I was always notified when changes were made rather than having to ask for this every time I create a doc. Thanks!

blackjazz said...

The ability tp change the border width in a spreadsheet.

Also, the ability to merge vertically as well as horizontally.

Thanks :-)

dima said...

Please add the ability to make a fixed column width in Google spreadsheets.

ptc said...

Tabbed documents.

Such a simple idea, and nobody I know of has ever done it.

It would work just like Google spreadsheets, with tabs along the bottom, but each tab opening a document, not a spreadsheet.

The ability to move among multiple docs (chapters in a book for example) in this fashion would be the BEST.

ptc said...

Ability to embed a google calendar in a doc or spreadsheet...?

jms said...

Since the several products don't support spell check it would be nice to have the "paste special" capabilities of word so you could put just the text not the formating. I'm working around by cut-and-paste with word. BTW the spell checker in Chrome which is OK conflicts with the right click context menus in to many apps making almost not all that useful.

Archer said...

I agree with Singer360. I would really like to see an approval workflow. This would allow Google Docs to begin to be used as a true document management system - a real plus!

I need tab stops: left, center, right, decimal with leading dots or other characters

Forms: (tangential mention in earlier post) File upload field in a form.

File upload in a form would enable a bunch of uses... like a way to organize receipts/faculty applications (or interviews)/corporate card use/etc.
[it's a convenient catch-all]

Forms: the last time I was on the receiving end of a form I wasn't entirely certain that a duplicate form entry (an "opps" on my part) replaced or duplicated my input in the spreadsheet. I can imagine either action being useful, though...

Its still very primitive. Needs way more optins. Especially using cells in docs is very frustrating. Mostly you just give-up and use word instead.

allow google calender to be embedded in google doc!

Avid said...

I thought google documents was great, and planned to use it for all my papers- until I tried to export it. There are double spaces where there should be only one, and now I have to reformat my entire document. It looks awful. Copy and pasting into an MS Word doc produces the same result. I hope you fix this soon, I'd like to use it but I don't want to have to reformat all my documents everytime I export them.

tab stops

Need tab stops in documents! With standard alignment options. This is one of the most basic missing features that is keeping me from using google docs for all my word processing needs.

also more background colours.

I want to be able to email the people I am collaborating on a document with, without re-sharing the google-doc link every single time.

Alexander said...

I have a problem with google docs and hope someone can help me. I'm working on different "documents" and this problem only appears with some of them. I write my text at size 10. But sometimes when the site autosafes and always when I paste a text or create a table it automatically a blanc line in size 14. And also sometimes when I make a new line it's suddenly size 14. It looks like the website always tries to make me write in size 14... that's very annoying... does anyone know what to do?

seisele said...

Being able to set up the page to print on different sizes of paper, or to set the margins, would be helpful. Specifically, I use 11x17 for some of my collaborative spreadsheets, and I have to download and save them in order to print them out, which takes some time and is a bit annoying!

Chris Butterworth said...

1. Seamless integration with MS Office. copy-paste / import-export / whatever - the vast majority of people still have to use Office at some point..

2. More options for paper sizes & margins.

This is a nice suite of apps - does 80% of what most people need. But that last 20% is a deal-breaker. I keep trying, and then I keep using Office to finish the job.
