Earlier today we made two additions to the Google Docs settings page. The first, "Where items open," lets you pick if you want items to open in a new window (how it works today) or in the same window.
A couple weeks ago, we launched "New!" and "Viewed/unviewed" indicators in the docs list which allow you to easily spot brand new and updated items. Since not everyone loves these -- shocking, I know :-) - we also added an "Update indicators" setting, which lets you turn these indicators off.

Been waiting forever for the "where items open" option, and the new item indicator is appreciated as well! Thanks!
Thank goodness the new item indicator feature was put into a settings option. I rant more on my blog site at http://www.zingodia.com/blog/20091110-newdocssettings but the general courtesy to the user base is all new features should have an on/off setting. That's what I love about google's labs features in their mail - it lets you turn on/off new ideas. Google should apply this thinking to all their products - calendar received it awhile back, but documents and sites haven't.
Would also be nice to have an option to open an item in a new tab.
@GRC: Whether links open in a new window or a new tab is a function of your browser. Google Docs can't control that at all. Check your settings if you'd like a different behavior (there are also modifiers you can hold down to do this: ctrl for Firefox on Windows, cmd for Safari on Mac).
Still waiting on groups to be supported in Docs. Without this, the service isn't really useful.
Users have to be added one at a time to make "groups" work. This is lame!
If you are talking about sharing with groups in Google Apps, it already works.
Check this post http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/08/sharing-with-google-groups.html
@Vijay Bangaru,
Would it be possible to add an interface reset button to the Settings->General tab?
There are a number of users that found they pulled the divider in the Google Docs files list too far to the right and had big trouble getting it back to a normal position.
Also a number of users had similar problem with dragging - in the Google Docs files list - the seaparators for the Name, Folders/Sharing and Date column, which resulted in losing a column (typically the Folders/Sharing coloumn) without any means to get it back.
TIA
I like being about to turn all the options off. Of course, I still miss the old labels that were put in place with Google bought Writely...
Is it possible to add presence for friends, a company directory where you could click on a employee and mark as friend. Can I add chat and group chat to a web page. I would like a template that has these capabilities like iGoogle page.
Hi Google Docs Creators
I am a studnet in Ottawa, Ontario who uses google docs regularly. When ever me and my class insert a chart or table into a google document, the side with the least information or words is imdeiatly centerd, leaving a big space at the top not wanting to adjust..
thank you very much
student
